View Full Version : Is There a Difference Between Corsair and Seasonic PSUs?

I think I know that Corsair gets Seasonic to manufacture their PSUs to spec, but how different is Corsair's 620w model to Seasonic's 600w model?

I know they're both extremely powerful and stable, but I see that the Corsair has three 12v rails and the Seasonic has four. Are they both really good PSUs? Which is recommended? I see the Corsair is around the same price as the Seasonic. Anything?

Other forums I've read (mainly DFI forums) say the Corsair is the best. I don't remember reading anything about Seasonic over there. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The major reason why people jump on the Corsair is that they specify the output performance at 50 C air temperature. That impresses the heck out of many geeks as it is very "PCP&C'ish".

Note that until just a few weeks ago people on DFI-Street were actively discouraging everybody from buying modular PSUs because the extra connections (plugs on the PSUs) supposedly kill the performance. I don't think I have to tell you what it means when people on DFI-street "discourage" anything or anybody :)

Then OCZ came along with the Evostream design which is modular and according to OCZ better than the GameXtreme and people flip their opinion 180 degrees.

i could frankly care less if they said modular kills performance.. i'd highly doubt that in the first place and i wouldn't care just cause i like to be neat :p

what's the output performance of the seasonic? the corsair and seasonic are around the same price range and i'm wondering if one is better than the other.

my sp-500 is dying just cause antec put crap capacitators in them... need to replace soon.

The Seasonics are very quiet. I have the 600w S-12 and that sucker is one very quiet psu. Was there a particular Seasonic model you were looking at? It would make it easier to compare if we knew which model you were comparing to the Corsair.

Sorry, particularly the M-12. I think that is.

They both are basically the same thing. The rail distribution on these two particular PSU's are, what Jonny determined, are actually quite deceptive. At most there are only 2 actual 12v rails on both these psu's with no OCP (over current protection.) What that means is that both these PSU's act no differently than a single rail PSU. You can load up 30 amps on one of those '18 amp' rails and it won't trip the PSU.

basically still is not exactly the same.Deceptive in what way....
Or to cut to the quick of things you are saying they both are in fact exactly the same?

hmmmm

Actually, that 50C is only for the Turbo-Cool. And it's not an uncommon temperature to rate a PSU at if it's a quality PSU (SevenTeam, Etasis, Zippy.)

The Seasonic built PCP&C is only rated at 40C. ;)

I'm afraid it's not an apples to apples comparison since the Corsair is 620W and the Seasonic is a 700W, but they're both reviewed here:

Corsair: http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=32

Seasonic: http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=13

The Seasonic puts out 72 more Watts on the 12V rail, they're both about the same efficiency, both have APFC, they both have tight regulation (neither crossloaded or showed any kind of discerning drop in voltage under load.) The Corsair seemed to have a bit more ripple, but still within spec.

Sorry about that Jonny, I was referring to the 600w Seasonic (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151030)

I read your 700W Seasonic, but was looking for a comparison for the 600w version.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

I know. That's why I said it's not an apple to apples comparison. ;) But hopefully it gives you some sort of idea.
