I am trying to find out if I can do SLI with my dual monitors. I don't want to game on both monitors at the same time--just run the desktop on both screens. I was doing this fine on my 6800GT, and I just want to make sure that if I do a SLI rig, I'll be able to do the same thing..

Any search I do on google for this just comes up with results specific to gaming on two monitors, so I can't come up with any useful information...

I'm pretty certain you can only run dual monitors and SLi if you're using Quadros.

Ya, I had this same issue and contacted Nvidia directly to confirm:

A single card can run dual monitors, but only in NON-SLI mode. Once you engage SLI, it will only run ONE monitor, regardless of whether it's in a game or not (ie-your desktop will only be one monitor in SLI mode). So going SLI defeats the whole purpose of having 2 monitors.

DX10 cards are *rumored* to be able to handle multiple-monitor setups in SLI, but that's not confirmed AFAIK at this point. But if that were the case, then you're looking at over $1000 just to use that 2nd monitor. And if you play FPS games, then it's a waste because your crosshair is at the bezel between the 2 monitors ;) So it's like you're trying to shoot off-screen..........
