FX60

Unless you want a single core... then it's the FX57.

Take a look here (http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUFilter.aspx) and see with your own eyes.

opterons if you want to OC a lot. They come with great coolers as well.

Actually the fastest non-FX s939 processor wasn't the 2.4GHz 4800+, it was the 2.6GHz Opteron 185.

The Opteron 185 is the fastest non FX-60, the only difference is it isn't unlocked, but it is up to 2.6 and can overclock well, supposedly. I think I have read of people getting to 3.1 on it?

I need to rephrase:

The multipliers are locked from the top end. With any FX chip you can go with higher multipliers, increasing overclocking potential, but the truth is that the Opterons are "better Silicon", and are always more docile to overclocking. I'd give my eye tooth for a 185 right now. I'd probably get to 3.0 without pushing voltages too high. With my 4800 I don't dare go past 2.6 as I get terrible instability, even below 2.6 actually. I think I got the runt of the litter...

yeah best i've heard is the opteron 185 around 3-3.2 GHz, you can still get them new too, the athlon 939's with 1M cache like the 4800+, 4400+ fx 60 were discontinued around the first of the year I think.

I think they were actually discontinued July 06.

The new 170 Opty's will go to 3.0 with GOOD cooling. For less money (like $119)

I've got my Opti 165 at 2.88GHz right now. If i had water cooling i could probably get it past 2.9. Depending on the stepping some Opti 165s are able to reach 3.0.

opty. 165's seem to do quite well for low $$.
