Manufacturing Cost Of 300w Power Supply?

Hi, some years ago I read somewhere that the total manufacturing cost including bill of materials for a 300w PC ATX PSU was ca $30

Anyone know if there is any truth in this? I'd just like some ball park figure to know. I've seen the 300W FSP ATX-300PNF PSU for 350SEK, that's about $50 or £37 with todays exchange rate

And I'm assuming that is a PSU that could actually deliver 300W in a torture test without blowing up or going out of the ATX spec or doing anything else horribly stupid like a 450w DEER PSU does when loaded with 150W :wall:

Just looking for what to put in PC's that have the worst shit PSU's and thusly need a (cheap) upgrade, because that is what the owner will be for using a crap PSU to begin with

General rule of thumb is actual manufacturing costs, before markup, shipping to the US, markup by disty or markup by reseller, is about 50% of MSRP.

It's quite evident that a 500w DEER PSU for 25$ inluding a case isn't gonna be up to the task...

So my question is how cheaply you can build a "quality" 300W PSU...

I would say, if I was a buyer and knew nothing about build quality, I would be suspect of any 300W unit that had less than $20 in it.

Absolutely, but then again, you could be running into someone that's taking a piece of crap and marketing it up a gazillion percent. You just don't know sight unseen.

Guess that statement might have never been entirely correct then...
And I'll continue putting the Seasonic S12 PSU's into comps that would really be fine with a 200w PSU :)

It just pisses me off so much when you get a PC for repair and find a shit PSU in it, that has killed half of the components :(
I just can't for the life of me understand why they haven't been sued into oblivion in the US.

FWIW, you can get Topower, Hi-Pro and FSP with about $15 to $20 woth of components in them, but the problem is there's also Deer, Powmax, etc. out there that cost less to build but end up in our hands for more money and people that don't know any better get screwed. They think they're paying more and getting something better when they're not.
