A friend of mine is selling a BFG 650W PSU to me. He is asking $90 USD but I am a bit leery because I know next to nothing about BFG as a power supply brand. They make great graphics cards but that doesn't mean they make good PSUs.
I mean heck, their website doesn't even work well enough for me to get onto their "products" page.
Here is a very small review of the power supply:
http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/324/1
The specs:
+3.3V: 30A
+5V: 54A
+12V1: 20A
+12V2: 20A
-5V: 0.5A
-12V: 0.8A
+5VSB: 2.5A
Before making a stupid decision, I decided to post here.
What do you guys think?

I'd let someone else buy it. It's a lesser Topower unit.

Do they still have stock?
If not, ZipZoomFly have the OCZ GameXStream 600W (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=316504&prodlist=froogle) for $94.99 after MIR.

Sadly, I live in Canada so I can't have anything from a US-based etailer shipped to me.

ok Canada
I have seen this one recommend before ..
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2143209&CatId=0
and theirs this Enermax
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2503498&CatId=0
and I'm not positive but I think this CoolMax is even better than the BFG/Topower PSU

One day to go on the NCIX rebate for my own PSU: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=19646&vpn=SST-ST56ZF&manufacture=Silverstone%20Technology

Ooh! That XVS 600W is cool. $101.99 Canadian... Isn't that like $3 US?
That's an awesome price on the Silverstone too, though. That should be a strong consideration.

$90.09 according to Bloomberg :p
The Silverstone works out to about $120 US. They have the 500W Element too for about $90 US.

Yeah Canadian currency has caught up lately. That's an investment I wish I'd made...

So, I've narrowed it down to three units. I only buy my components from NCIX. They always have the best price and will price match any price below theirs. Here they are:
Fortron 550W:

Seasonic S12:

Zippy HP2:

The Zippy will be the best quality unit....but it will be the loudest.

The Zippy will be no louder than the linked Fortron.
I use a HP2-6460P
The thermal fan control is rather abrupt compared to the Seasonic's.

Well it must be a hell of a lot quieter than the 6850P's I use then.

Doesn't the 6850P have the internal 40mm fan? and the 80mm fan probably is of higher wattage too. The stock 80mm on the 6460P only drives 45cfm@12V.

Thoughts?
The FSP is based on the Epsilon design (ripple galore) and may not have PCI-E connectors. My 600W was like that. The Zippy will be extremely reliable, but is not one of their independantly regulated models. I think I'd try the Seasonic of the three actually.

Wow, never thought I would see the day when Wolf chooses a Seasonic
over a Zippy:eek:

I know...but even after all is said and done from personal experience I would just expect the Zippy to be louder....not that I mind. Zippy's usually go into things that live in their own room around here ;)
