I use 2 Belkin 830w/1500VA. Would rather have an APC but the Belkin's were much cheaper...

Replaced my dead Belkin in January with a good deal from Dell. Sold as a DEL1500, but its just a black APC Smart-UPS 1500VA (SUA1500). Good price, $275 cdn taxes and shipping included.

APC BackUPS RS 800 for me too.

Not to hijack the thread, but a question on this.
Technically that unit only provides up to 540W of backup power.
My rig has a 750W PSU in it.
Now I've never seen the draw from my system go over 245W - but I can't
really tell what it goes up to when I"m gaming - can't see it being over 400W.

Anyway - the question is - does it matter that the UPS is of lower wattage then the PSU (I figure as long as I'm below 540W draw I'm ok)?

Thx,
Sdrac

Nope, it doesn't matter. You can hook a 1KW unit on it if you like.
The only thing that matter is that you should never overload your UPS (no more than 540W load on it).

What happens if you overload it? For example, 2 pc's drawing 300w, on a 500w ups (leaving you 100w down) ?

i also got a APC Smart-UPS 1500VA... got it on that dell deal for less than $300.

it may be refurbished, but it comes with a new battery. It is less than half the price retail.

it also blows the socks off of the back-ups... as it does voltage regulation without having to switch to battery mode.

If you actually draw 300W per PC (600W) then the UPS will trip into overload.

I have overloaded a UPS before... it starts to beep and then my computer restarted...

I live in Central FLA and an UPS is as important a part for your PC as the PSU is.
(Were considered the lightning capital of the world)

OM made a price mistake about 2 years ago in sunday Flyer and the stores tag both read $100 off on the APC XS1000 ..reg price 129.99.

I grabbed a manager and ask if he could verify that it was indeed the price, and yep it rang up at $29.99 + tax.
So I ask if their was a limit on how many I could get at that price and he said no limit... :)
Got back to the shelf to find their was only one more in Stock ..and of course none in the back

Anyways i got the 2 instock and they have served me very well.
I also have an apc 500 on the kids pc
and a APC 300 on the entertainment center and in both bedrooms.

Depends on how well the overload detection is built. If it's not well designed, it won't give any symptoms, then it might overload, burn out, or suddenly cut out as soon as it switches over to battery.

If it's designed good, it will tell you audibly and visibly.
