I am new here and signed up due to a fellow forum member. I have had some power supply issues as of recent. I run my cpu's (X6800,Q6600) on LN2 on a vcore modded P5K deluxe with a single 8800GTX which is now also vmodded and on water. My first PSU was an OCZ Gamextreme 850w. I ran for a few weeks with this psu and the X6800. I benched it just over 5300mhz. and 1.85v. At this time the 8800 was not modded. One P5K just refused to boot one day no apparent reason. I figured I must have burned it out. I picked up another and modded it. Now was time for the Q6600. I ran over the coarse of a weekend. I only used bios vcore and maxed it around 1.7v at 4500. The second day I started having random restarts even at stock. The third day it refused to boot again no apparent reason. So now was time for a new mobo once again. This time I got an extra PSU GameXtreme 700w. Modded the mobo and tried to run. I paired off the 850W with the 8800 and a pump along with 2 fans. The 8800 was now modded. I powered the mobo drive and a few fans with the 700w. Issues right off the bat on the 850w side. I started removing components. After disconnecting a 120mm fan it seemed to work. After about a minute the 850w gave me problems. I disconnected the 8800 and now just ran the pump and everything was fine. I connected the 8800 to the 700W PSU and everything powered up fine. I ran for a bit at stock cpu speeds and voltage. The vmod was working great on the 8800. Now was time to OC the Q6600. I set the bios up to 1.675 and 4280 or so. It started to get into the bios then froze as it went into windows. Now I am stuck and it has not booted since. I think the problem is the amp draw on the Q6600 at this voltage and speed. I need a PSU that can handle a wattage of around 360 on the cpu and also can handle a 8800GTX at 1.5+v and core speed in the area of 750. Sorry for the first post being so long but I wanted to get everything across.

You need to get yourself something better then a gamextreme. You should look at the reccomended high end gaming PSU's sticky here in this forum and pick a tier 2 or tier 1 PSU.
Something like the new TT 1000/1200 watt PSU's or a PCP&C would do the trick.
EDIT: BTW there is no way your CPU is drawing 360w. My entire system (yin in sig) draws <500 watts on load.

FWIW, I don't think there is anything wrong with how long your post is, but one gigantic block paragraph is extremely hard to read. You can get better results when breaking up paragraphs every 2 to 4 short sentences.
Jonny and guys: Would this be an instance where that new Enermax Galaxy 850 is called for, since he needs so much for the CPU and all?
Guy, why not get a stable running system for a while before going right in and damaging stuff, sorry, I just have to ask?
I have to wonder if ripple problems were one of the reasons for your stuff going south...

Bun-Bun: Thanks will look in that direction. As for the wattage draw here (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/powercalc.jsp) is the calculator I used. Using the formula for a Q6600 then set it to high end desctop board. I choose 1.675 for vcore and set the oc'd speed to 4500. That's where I got the 350 from.
signmeuptoo: Thanks for the suggestion. I have always been bad with essays. :o As for the stable system well for me stability is making it through a 3d app. I strictly bench my rigs for daily use I have my laptop.
My systems never enter a case and sit out on the table instead. With the X6800 I boot into windows over 4.8gig and pretty much know the limitation of the chip about 5360. The Q6600 seems to wall around 4500 but might go further with a vmch mod.
I know it sounds odd but where some ppl like to game I like to run benchmark apps. To me excitement is getting a few thoundths of a second off the time of a 2d application or getting an extra hundred points in a 3d application. :)

Ah, well, if you REALLY want to have fun tweaking and optimizing then, go work in the industry. I used to and I loved it passionately. I hope to get back to it one day. I tweaked million dollar chip manufacturing equipment, and let me tell you, that is way more fun than just playing with the chip the stuff makes, heh.
Try optimazing a TEA CO2 LASER for pulse forum and total output, then you really will know fun, heh.
Anyways, I hear ya, I am a tweaker myself by my very nature, many of my jobs have been down that road... The only thing is, well, how much can you afford to fry stuff? Me? I'd give my eye tooth to be able to afford what you are doing, right now I can't even afford to send a shipment UPS, sigh...

those online calculators are garbage. According to those calcluators my systems draws 750w... when it draws ~415w from the wall
There is one person on XS who I know is descent at estimating power consumption of CPU's... for example a conservative estimation of a QX6850 @ 4.9GHz (I think 1.7v?) is ~225w. Probably is a bit more then that but that is a conservative estimation.
And I agree with previous post idea about ripple... the ripple on those gamextreme's could be causing these mobo's to go on you... questioning that myself on my Strikers that I keep going through with my M12-700... bought another one to rule it out. But yeah I would think a 850w PSU would do you fine but you need to find one with very little ripple for that extreme OC'ing.

I was thinking about the Silverstone OP1000. Now the ripple I see is 120mv which appears to be the same as my OCZ. I am looking for the $300 range and would like single rail. Any other better suggestions?

If it's an open system, always on table, you can get 2 500+ units. Corsair HX520 for example can be found around $100 (assuming that you're in the U.S.-I am not as you can see from the location info and it will be great if you add yours), single rail as you want, modular.

Thanks for the suggestion MP. I would rather stay with a single PSU is possible. I already have my table a bit of a mess.....dual pumps, cooler for H20 benching.
BTW I was in Istanbul for 14hours on a layover to Azerbijan a few years ago. Since there was nothing to do at the airport I grabbed a hotel to catch a few hours shut eye but instead I wound up in the bar at the lobby conversing (trying to) with locals over a few beers. :D

If you are going the LN2 2 x 2900XT route, go with the Silverstone Olympia OP1000. Contact hipro5 on Xtremesystems forums before you make a purchase. He may have additional input and may help you with a discount.
If you are buying from the US, deadeyedata are a good place to buy.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I picked up an Ultra X3 1000. Hopefully I will be testing it out tonight. :)

So far very stabile! :) I was able to run 3d at 4374 on my Q6600. It netted me 17th single card in 06. :D 16,290 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2536194)
