I currently have an OCZ PowerStream 520W-SLI (link (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_powerstream_power_supply)). It is powering a A8N32 with 2x corsair 3500L dimms, 2x raptor hd's, 2x segate hds, amd x2 4400+, 1x optical, soundblaster x-fi platinum and 2x 7800GT.

I recently recieved another 2 dimms of corsair ram (4gig total now). While memtest and cpu stress tests would run flawlessly 24/7, when I start up a game utilizing the gfx cards, the system locks up after about 5minutes with the sound distorting as sign of an imminent crash. The 4 gigs have caused some other issues but it occurs to me that perhaps the power supply simply can't handle the extra 2 dimms of ram? Everything was running smooth before the extra 2 gigs.

My questions is, do you think an upgraded power supply might remedy this issue and also, how about the idea of getting a 2nd power supply instead of replacing this one completely? My case is a TJ07 and has room for 2 power supplies.

thanks for the feedback.

Remove 1 GPU & if the problem goes away then it is probably the PSU, if not then look else where.

RAM doesn't pull very much +3.3V, but your GPU's are sure pulling a lot of +12V amperage.

I think one of your two sticks of RAM, or the motherboard, are bad.

Like Dave said, RAM doesn't put that much of a load on a PSU.

You'll see there's another thread here where someone ran Memtest on two sticks of RAM and it passed, but when they ran them one stick at a time it failed almost immediately. Memtest is not reliable. I've often had it pass known bad RAM.

Yep, ~5A (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gpu-consumption2006_5.html)/card. :D
What OS do you have? XP 32 or 64?

Not all mobo's support 4 gb even if they say they do.

I agree, if the problems started right after you installed those DIMMS, run memtest on each stick, one at a time.

Okay i'll check the sticks one at a time. They are Corsair TWINX-2048 3500LL Pro. The original sticks I have say v1.2 on them, these say v1.1 so maybe something is screwy.

My OS is Windows 2003 x64
