Hey guys. Right now I am using the wrong AC Cord to my "new" supply because the one that came with it is very short. I need a good 15 guage [strike that, absent minded error, 14 guage/15 amp] cord since that is what came with the supply originally (I am using a different one for now). I'd like an 8-10 ft cord. Who sells them for a good price?

The only ones I've seen, sold by MicroCenter and Fry's, are standard gauge...in 12 ft. lengths.

I, too, had a problem with where my computer now sits and where my UPS plugs in. I had a 4 ft. gap between the UPS and the computer's power cord. And, like yours, the power supply I am using came with a thicker than normal power cord.

So, I did what is probably completely frowned upon.....I made an extension cord for the gap. I had bought a 200 ft. roll of 12 ga. 3 conductor extension cord at an auction of a hardware store that was going out of business. I cut a 6 ft. length off, used the heaviest plugs that Lowe's had in their store and made myself an extension cord. The extension is actually thicker than the computer's power cord, so I hope the addition of the cord and plugs doesn't compromise the power too much.

Most hardware supply stores have heavy gauge extension cord in bulk, sold by the foot. But, I really don't know if this is the best solution.....just what I did...and has worked so far. :)

Have you tried monoprice?

I didn't see any on monoprice in that gauge, they do have 14 AWG extensions though.

Volex 17605 (http://www.volexpowercords.com/power_cords/powercord2.cgi?view=17605&catagory=3_conductor_plastic_detachable&area=other&mfgloc=&partnumber=&userid=)

This is a 10' version of the popular 17604 which a lot of home theater gurus use for after market power cords. I use them on my HT equipment as well as my psu. They rival the $200+ dollar boutique cords.

Newark has them (http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=93K2607&CMP=AFC-GB100000001)

Thanks gentlemen!

A super kind person in another forum, for some reason, is sending me a cord FOC, to my shock, he said just pay it forward, which I always try to do. I don't know what he is sending me, but hopefully it is heavier guage than what I am using now.

I will bookmark those links and bless you all for your terrific input!

----> EDIT: Guys, one other question: Where is a good site that I can buy a cable for the Philippines. I want to get an Active PFC supply for the system I am making for wife there, and I will need a power cable that works where she lives <----

Thanks again!

Quick question guys.. What's the enticement to get an aftermarket power cord unless what came with your PSU is broken some how? Or are they bought merely because sometimes the positioning of the HTPC isn't always close enough to a socket?

The cord does not reach my surge protector, that is why I need one. Yeah, I have a, what, 18 gauge I am using now that does, but a 14 gauge is what came with the supply. Fortunlately, I am not using the supply anywhere's near its potential, but I would like to use an approved gauge.

BTW, guys, it turns out the guy who was going to give me a cable, well, his cable is only 18 gauge, so I told him thanks but not to waste his money.

I guess I will have to look at an extension or something, or buy that one you guys put up there.

If any of you know where I can get international power cords, let me know please.

Get one of these -

Then you can use the wire type/ga you *need* at the proper length, etc.

We use them for power amps.

Ah, looks good.

Now if only I could find such connectors for the Philippines, or a ready made cord...
