View Full Version : Adding extra radiator....

Ok. I got a second radiator to bring my water temps down a little more.

I currently have my loop going:

Pump -> CPU -> GPU -> GPU -> Radiator -> Back to Pump

There's a filler port teed in between the radiator and pump.

I was thinking of just adding the raditor after the pump. Essentially putting the pump between the two radiators. Or I could just go from radiator to radiator to pump.

Or should I put the second radiator somewhere else? Like between the CPU and first GPU?

I'm running my 2nd rad between the first and second GPU's but that was just to make routing tubing more convenient. Personally my advice is to route it whatever way it takes to minimize the tubing added into your loop.

I put the second rad between the CPU's and the GPU's. But it looks like the fittings are leaking. The o-rings are squished. Looks like I need to use some teflon tape. Funny... it's the same kind of rad and fittings used for the 1st rad which never leaked. Oh well...

You've just over tightened the fittings. Take them out, put a tiny bit of petroleum jelly on the o-rings and put them back in and don't torque them down quite as hard. I had to do that with my BI X-Flow to keep the o-rings from squishing out.

Well... to add insult to injury, the pump is dead too.

Made a hell of a racket and now it just hums and doesn't move any water.

*sigh*

What pump is it?

It's the Danger Den DDC-12V aka Swiftech MCP355.

Gah, I've been hearing that they're more prone to failure than the D5. Sucks man, I think I'd RMA the beasty.

Well... Dano is shipping me another today. We'll give it another roll.

Is he gonna book it too?

Not using the Corsair Nautilus anymore Jonny? The pump on that kit has been great for me. Still running strong after a year and a half or so. Only negative about the kit is that the Rad is aluminum. I tried adding a Swiftech a MCB-120 Radbox to my loop as well as using the apogee GT waterblock (had actually bought that whole Swiftech Premium 120 kit and just added it to my Nautilus kit.) For some reason, the water didn't flow. Loop was going Res->Rad->Res->CPU->Northbridge->2nd Rad->Res. I have it back to stock now.

The pump was too loud for my liking. And sitting outside of the case? Fo-get it.

I think the pump is dead silent! I have it on high 24/7 and it doesn't bother me. I run everything right off my desk with the mobo on its box.

My hearing is poor anyways but I think high school got me to block out noise distractions... The whole school was an open concept, rooms were divided by dividers and bookcases. There were 4 wings of the school and about 1200 total students.

Trust me. As far as water pumps go, it's pretty loud.

Can't be as bad as the original MAG's.. I had one. died. Second one? Died. Third? scrape scrape scrape *died* and the fourth one? Didn't even take it out of the box. Went straight onto the internet.

Jonny: Maybe it's like a hard drive; the drive itself doesn't make a hell of a not of noise, but the vibrations are what make it loud. Isolate it, and it might be much quieter.
