A friend of mine who runs the XtreamownedBF2 server, gave me a call this week flipping out about his PSU makeing all kinds of racket.

So the next day I drive over there, only to find out that he already went to CompUSA and bought a OCZ GXS 600W.

So I switched out the Enermax with the OCZ,and presto! He was happy.
I asked him if I could take the Enermax home and open it up.
He said I could have it,so I got it home and hooked it up to my test rig.
He wasen't kidding, the thing sounded like my old Huffy with the playing cards in the spokes:p

I opened her up and could not see anything at all but dust!
You have to realize that this dude has 2 mabey 3 LAN parties a week, with about 7-8, over 40, chain-smoking rednecks fragging away 10-15 hours straight in that same room!:p

I had to fire up my compressor to blow it all out,and discovered that the dust had clogged both fans, not to mention a piece of a hairclip and Barbie shoes:p
He's got two , 3 year old girls,twins, and they are bad:p

Now I can't hear it at all,and seems to have very good airflow and no swollen
caps either:D

I don't know much about the old Whispers like I do the Whisper 2
I've been thinking about replacing my daughters Hipro-250w with the
Enermax-2.8 Celeron,1x20gb WD,DVD-ROM,onboard video,512mb PC-2100
1x92mm fan.

specs on PSU:
+12@17a
+5v@32a
+3.3v@32a
+5vsb@2.2a

Can anybody think of a reason why not to use this PSU with this setup?

Any feedback will be appreciated:D

Its a free PSU and it was working great even when it was making all that noise after swallowing Barbie's wardrobe...so, why not? A free PSU is great if you can get one.

I have an old Whisper running in one of my older servers at the office. It has been running amazing for the last few years and I've had nothing but great experiences with Enermax products

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Keep the PSU.

I'd keep an eye on them anyway and inspect them every six months or so - though the Pce-Tur caps in these aren't nearly as testy as Fuhjyuu, they have been known to go once in a while. If the unit was running clogged with dust and heating up for some time, the caps' lives have likely been shortened. By how much, it's impossible to say.

I hear and obey:D

Sound advice there, by the way:)
