I thought I had done a good research job on the components of this build but had not counted on the vendor backordering the PS. It looks like it will be quite a while so I need a quick replacement. I had settled on the Seasonic M12-700 because of it's inclusion in a number of lists and quite a few good reviews (including one from here as well as being called one of the quietest Power Supplies by silentpcreview). I need it to power the components listed below. I also want it to be able to handle the power hungry DX10 video cards of the near future. I am not too interested in SLI/CF at the present so as long as it can can handle one DX10 card I can use an auxillary bay PS for a second, if I catch the fever.
Intel D975XBX (Bad Axe) MB
Core 2 Duo E6600
2 GB Corsair PC6400 DDR2-800
1 WD Sata Raptor for the OS (XP Pro)
4 WD Sata Caviar in Raid for capture/storage
EVGA 7900 GS
LG GSA-H10N DVD Burner
Floppy/flash reader combo
All in an Antec P180 (Which is why I want a modular power supply with relatively long cables)
In an ideal world there would be a rail for the MB, one for the CPU, one for peripherals and others for Video. In the real world due to the amps needed in today's units it seems that no current restrictions on the rails (at least the 12 V) (and thus no isolation) is the way everyone is going.
I have seen that the Corsair HX620 is well thought of and I think it should have enough oomph even into the future (or am I wrong). In general (if one can ever truly say that about all lines from one manufacturer) Silverstone appears to be a good choice. I know that the zippy units are supposed to be good but they are also too loud from what I have read.
I can pick up the Corsair here in Canada. The deals from Dead Eye Data are all Silverstone so is there one of those that would be an equal or better? Is there any other choice that I should investigate?
Basically what compares to, equals or exceeds the Seasonic M12-700 in regulation, power and silence?
