Personally, I think the Geforce 8600GT is a good buy when compared to the faster Geforce 8600GTS. The difference in performance between the two videocards is also relative small (less than 10 frames per second). The price for the 8600GTS is relative high: around 200-230 bucks (without rebate), while the 8600GT costs around the 140-150 bucks; you can buy the much faster Geforce 8800GTS 320MB for around 270 bucks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133193).

If the 8600GTS has more video memory, like 512 MB, and it has more streamprocessors (lets say 64 instead of the current 32; according earlier rumors in the past and leaked info about the 8600GTS it should have 64 streamprocessors, the 8600GT 48 streamprocessors and 8500GT 32 streamprocessors (source: http://www.theinq.com/default.aspx?article=37203 (8600GTS=8600ULTRA??? or Nvidia will launch the ULTRA in the future?); but again rumors were rumors and leaked info was not always reliable) then it would be a better buy.

Is it worth to pay 60-80 bucks more for the 8600GTS or with other words: is the (at most) 10 frames per frames increase 60-80 bucks worth? The only difference between the 8600GT and 8600GTS is the clockspeed for videocards. Maybe Nvidia should rename the 8600GT to 8600GS and 8600GTS to 8600GT (comparable to the clockspeed differences between 7600GS and 7600GT).

I'm actually not that disappointed by the 8600GT. You can pick one up for $130-150, which is around what the 7600GT goes for... Big improvement in performance over the 7600

This is a little bit off topic, but since you're discussing the 7600GT and 8600GT:

I've got 1 7600GT, would it be better to get another 7600GT and run them in SLI, or would the performance increase in the 8600GT warrant ditching the 7600 and just switching over, at the "loss" of a $100 video card.

If you're going to upgrade, do it to something meaningful. You can grab a X1950XT for under 200$, and an 8800GTS 320mb for 260ish. Those are your best mid-ranged offerings.
