The qualifications I'm looking for I've found some in most of all the ones I've seen but not all of these qualities in any particular one.

1. Is modular
2. Eps compatible
3. Able to run 2 - 8800GTXs with ease
4. Able to sufficiently power a quad core CPU
5. Is fairly quiet
6. Is ergonomically sound
7. Doesn't break the bank - $250 tops

(an example of a PSU I find appealing and ergonomic and a link to an example of a PSU that is not ergonomic is below)

Ergonomic:

Not ergonomic:

If you are aware of a PSU that embodies all of these qualities and is viewed by the majority asw trouble free, please let your voice...or fingers...do the talking.

Thank you

Courious... what's your beef with Seasonic that you can't have one but want one of the same quality? I would recommend the M12-700w but that doesn't satisfy your non-seasonic criteria...

No beef with SeaSonic. Just that I'm in the process of evaluating whether or not there are incompatibilities with my new MSI rig. The Corsair I bought might be suffering some kind of rejection from this insanely finicky:fire: MSI board.

If I ever build another Core2Duo SLI system around either an EVGA board or an Asus board I'd have zero qualms with using a Seasonic, or for that matter my Corsair. Not likely though because this build put me in financial crisis.:(

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "ergonomically sound" but I would think the Silverstone Zeus ST75ZF would meet all your requirements -->> http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=160&products_id=4447

Your reply helped me remember one very important feature - modular wiring.

When I saw the model number and name of that particular PSU I thought about that because I knew that model didn't have modular wiring. I've edited my original post to include modular wiring.:)

Thermaltake toughpower 850w (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153043)

it's 8800GTX SLI certified and is less than $10 over your proposed budget. I'm normally not given to recommending anything with Thermaltake's name on it, but the 750 is a Guru recommended model, so the 850 should be pretty nifty as well.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll look into it. :)

Good grief! Thanks for the info. There just doesn't seem to be one particular PSU with all the necessary qualities

Depending on how the X3 turns out, how well it is recommended. I'll keep an eagle eye on it for sales events.

Based on the results of using an alternate PSU in my MSI rig I can now include SeaSonic as an acceptable candidate. I'll edit the original post to reflect this.

I haven't experienced the buzzing sound from a Thermaltake 850W at all.

You have a stringent set of demands there.. ;)

Not many fulfill that criteria.

Maybe a newer Ultra X3 800W would (if modular).

Galaxy (DXX) 850 does too, but its pricey and future proofed. Cheapest I saw is $270 after rebate a while ago.

Considered the Enermax in the beginning but was disheartened by some comments about its quality and sketchy reliability.

I'm thinking about the X3 1k, didn't even know there was an X3 800, but if it receives positive reviews and is on the GURUs upper-end list I plan to keep an eagle eye on the etailers for discounts or sales

The X3 800W is around the corner. Significantly different design as it's based on an Andyson AD-MT8 instead of the AD-800:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1069

I have an "X-Pro" version that I love very much, but only use as a bench PSU because I broke the fan power wire, wired up my own fan that now spins at 100% RPM all day. Never gets hot at least. :D

Thanks for that heads-up.

Do us a favor, show us the modular side of that 800. The one thing that pushed me over the edge in favor of an X3 1k was the view of the modular interface.

Thanks:)

http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1069I figured out finally why the pictures of that Andyson weren't visible to me back then..

My firewall was blocking the pictures as ADvertisement because it sees "AD" in the embedded image URLs :(

What firewall do you have?
