View Full Version : Guess the watch..... (spin off thread)

Well, UPS International Shipping was kind enough to drop off the first shipment of X3 1000W power supplies into the states.

I was lucky enough to get a few and have shipped one to Matt to review for jG.com and one to Spectre for [H]. One, I took out to the back patio this morning, with my cup of Joe, and took some photos of. I think about 500 more landed for sale at Fry's and Directron (at least that's what Roland at Ultra told me, so if that's wrong it's his fault.)

I hope it performs as good at is looks... otherwise it won't be of much use. :(

All you can see is a bit of the strap not the watch. :o

Panerai Luminor Chronograph?
On second thoughts no. Thats costs $10k and is discontinued.

Breitling Superocean Chronograph?

Tag Heuer Formula One? Tag Heuer Formula One Chronograph?

Maybe a Casio Edifice or something. I give up!

IMHO, that's enough. It's a very unique band and only comes on that particular model watch.

So far, I've found a few that MAY fit the description (metal band with a black center, presumably rubber)

Momentus S201c-02ac
Momentus S202c-02ac
Chase Durer Blackhawk Mach III

There is also a black Fossil, but i highly doubt it.

And from what I can see, it's not:
seiko
Fortis
Rolex
Rado
Timex
Universal Geneve
Swatch
Swiss
Bvulgari
Casio
Memotime
Kiber

Do I win a prize?

I'd almost say the watch is a Movado Eliro.

Kab
03-25-2007, 03:49 AM
A Tissot T-Touch is unique and so is a Rolex Chronograph...

Anyway, maybe its just a Citizen Eco-Drive NightHawk :D

Or the Girard Perragaux Ferrari, because it doesn't look like any Swatch, Cartier, Rolex, Rado or DKNY I recall. And I'm used to jewelry hunting so I can pretty much distinguish many of them.. if something like the dial is shown. (with brand labels removed)

That's as difficult as guessing what started the world :(

Comes close to the Movado Eliro Chronograph. No, its the Omega Speedmaster I had! Not.

Finally its a Seiko Flight Computer.

So is this the Andysonn server grade psu that Ultra has released here? Its putting the same amount of amps on the +12V line as my Silverstone ST850ZF.

Jon Gerow
03-25-2007, 08:19 AM
So far, I've found a few that MAY fit the description (metal band with a black center, presumably rubber)

Man... you guys are bad. It's not rubber. It's a herringbone type concave down the center of the band. GY pretty much gave the second clue and nobody ran with it!

Nobody has even named the specific brand yet, which floors me because it's a VERY common brand of watch (no... not Timex.) That's THREE clues!

I'm upping the prize: winner gets the X3 1000W! :)

So is this the Andysonn server grade psu that Ultra has released here? Its putting the same amount of amps on the +12V line as my Silverstone ST850ZF.

Yes, it's the same on the +12V as the Etasis/Silverstone, but the ET850 is no slouch. 840W on an 850W? W00t! Of course, that's not a very realistic load. If you actually NEEDED 840W on a 850W PSU, that would only leave 10W left for EVERYTHING ELSE! The addition of four USB devices alone would max out that PSU!

Benefit of the X3 would be of course the quieter 135MM fan, modular and better efficiency. If none of that matters, then the Etasis ET850 is certainly a hot ticket.. and for less money than the X3 I'm sure.

From what I can tell, they took the AD-800 platform (thanks to Matt for that observation) and made it more efficient so they could switch up the heatsinks. Then swapped out the main trasformer and output rectifiers to allow for the higher output.

I know the game plan is to migrate this over to the AT-8 platform in due time, which can already put out 1000W in it's smaller footprint, but the efficiency takes a nose dive over 800W.

Kab
03-25-2007, 09:30 AM
Till now I thought we were going for the X3 :D

Anyway yeah, Luminox 3600 series.

I'm running out of guesses now. Will have to start searching online catalog's which can be very tedious and frustrating :o But who cares when I'm doing it for the heck of it :D

Well, my best guess is Armitron - can't get any further than that. Not too many places to get watches around here, and I don't even have a working one anymore. To be fair though - my 15 year old Lorus just needs a new battery I'm too cheap to buy it ;)

Used to have an Armitron calculator watch as a kid. I usually ran around playing Knight Rider with it :D

Oh GOD! I used to have one of those. Was Armitron the original calculator watch? Wow... That is so Flock of Seaguls 80's.

What was funny was we weren't supposed to have calculators at school, but they couldn't ask the kids to take off their watches.

I believe a Pacman watch came out soon after. :D

Same thing at my school - after I found that out, me and my watch were never apart ;)

My Lorus has been the watch I've had longest - got it in 1992 for a grad present. Has all kinds of cool features I've never used, like a speed calculator. Next time I want one of those cool Casios with a GPS locator or something :D

My memory had not failed me.... http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Nelsonic/PacMan.htm

Apparently, my memory is faulty on the calculator watch. There was an HP calc watch in 1977. Although the $650 price tag could explain why I don't remember it.....

http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/worlds-first-calculator-watch-1977

The Armitron didn't come out until 1980. So even Seiko, Casio and Citizen beat them to it.

Oklahoma Wolf

Its an Accurist, Sekonda or Pulsar!

At the third stroke, the time sponsored by Accurist will be... TIME TO GET UGLY!!!

"Hot as hell, hot hot hot as hell"

She says I'm a bum, she says I'm a rogue
It's my style, my third rate backstreet vogue
She says that I'm fat, I say that she's thin
It's 1987 and ugly is in

If we're in your street, all girls and guys
Will run like hell for hair and hide
So don't get down if you're not so lovely
It's 1988 - time to get ugly

Should be a crime to be that ugly
She's a real ugly lady - U!
The ugliest in the world - G!
You know I don't mean maybe - L!
So won't somebody tell me - Y!
It should be a crime to be that ugly

Ugly, oh yeah, she's my ugly girl
Ugly, oh yeah, tailor-made for another world
Ugly, oh yeah, seems to wear it well
Ugly, oh yeah, we suit each other well

"Hot as hell, hot hot hot as hell"

She likes to get down, she likes to get dirty
We like to fool around like Pinky and Perky
A roll in the mud never hurt this pig
It's 1989 and ugly is in

We steal our style from the bargain bin
A style pig sty is the state we're in
So don't get down if you're not so lovely
It's 1990 - time to get ugly

Should be a crime to be that ugly
She's a real ugly lady - U!
I mean ugly, ugly, urghhh - G!
You know I don't mean maybe - L!
So won't somebody tell me - Y!
It should be a crime to be that ugly
"Hot as hell"

Rockman rock!
Yo! Go!
"Do one more"

"Hot hot hot as hell"
And it should be a crime to be that ugly

Ugly

"...Precisely"

No... You're all wrong. I can't believe nobody's even guessed the brand. It's so common.

Someone in the thread had mentioned a derivitive of the brand; i.e. a term used to describe certain goods from this and another brand that both happen to be from the same country, used to be competitors, but are now part of the same company (merger.)

THAT is such a dead give away, I ought to switch grand prize from the X3 1000W to a Delta DPS-300PB-1A! :D

I can only think of Swatch anyway (Cool Day), the mfg that owns 15 other brands and bought out Omega. Or a Breguet, which is not well known.

Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton who bought out Tag Heuer? Only Louis Vuitton watches I know are in excess of $15k.

What is it then, a Sanyo, C.Klein, D&G, Diesel, Smith & Wesson, Gul, Swiss Military Hanowa, Bell & Ross, T.Hilfiger, Christian Dior, Dunlop (lol), Nautica, Hugo Boss, Rotary, Technomarine, Skagen, Movado, Gucci, Caterpillar, Nike, Adidas, Speedo, Quantum??? :wall:

UNIQUE yet VERY popular http://www.d-a-l.com/help/images/smilies/wacko.gif

Quantum Titanium? "Is it Chrono".... "oh yeah it is" :o

Invicta Mens Elite looks a lot alike and so does one TNG, but its not that.

On the bright side, I did finally fix the Lorus today. The battery turned out to be a very common CR2025, so I grabbed one for $4 and replaced it myself. Pulsar was already mentioned awhile back when he said brand had not been guessed. Swiss Army is a good guess I think. I don't think anyone mentioned Skagen or Oseanus but I doubt it.

Tried "unidirectional bezel" and looking at the price range he mentioned being around $200-$250 or somewhere about there and brands not yet mentioned (I think) I can only come up with:
Wenger AquaGraph models#
72239
72237
72236
70856
70857
However, he did say the model number was not listed on the Amazon page so I guess that would rule them out. I am stumped for now.

Wenger AquaGraph

FINALLY! Someone guesses the brand.

It was KILLING me when people kept saying Swiss Army, because Swiss Army is Victorinox. Wenger is "Swiss Military" and nobody ever even said that!

Now you need the model. Remember, the AquaGraph doesn't meet some of the earlier hints: the material, and of course the herringbone band that the started this whole thing.

However, he did say the model number was not listed on the Amazon page so I guess that would rule them out. I am stumped for now.

No. I didn't say that. I said THE MODEL isn't listed on Amazon. Those numbers are not Wenger's numbers. Those are the vendor's. Each watch has a model NAME. But once you find the watch at Amazon, finding the model elsewhere should be cake.

Jon Gerow
03-28-2007, 05:56 PM
Actually, it IS up there!

In fact... the one in that picture is actually a Canadian model.

See, mine says "Wenger Swiss Military" on the face. But in Canada there is already a Wenger Ltd. of Canada Watch Company (http://www.cardinalwatch.com/about.html) that is not affiliated with the Swiss Wenger (what kind of coincidence is that?!?! Like Wenger is a common name abroad?) so they only say "Swiss Military" on them. They don't say Wenger anywhere.

Distribution is through "Swiss Peak" in Ontario. You'll see that on their site they don't call the watches "Wenger," only the knives and there's a disclaimer about not be associated with the other Wenger in Canada on the bottom of all of the pages.

The watch is all titanium and very very light. Whenever I hand it to someone, they think it's a plastic watch out of a cereal box. It's not expensive either. Going price is often under $200. Only $100 for "last years models." Despite it's price it is, most importantly, Swiss made and backed by a good warranty. :D

Oklahoma Wolf
03-28-2007, 06:10 PM
lol - that figures. I don't spend much time in stores that would likely carry those things though, so that would explain why I've never seen/heard of them. I don't spend more than $100 on my watches, and usually don't spend much less than that either.

The Lorus was $50 in a half price sale... the one before that (still have it somewhere, I should dig it out) was about $75 when I was in grade 6. Forgot the brand name on that one. I do recall it being better built than the Lorus, though not as loaded.

Wenger does make a nice looking watch though... I really should get it over with and dump the old Lorus. Here's a pic of the old thing:

Ah, I was getting really into it until I saw that it was guessed already...
I could have sworn it was a Guess Collection Diver Except the herringbone center. Too bad I haven't been online for a week or so, or I might have got it. Just realized why it looks so familiar... MY BROTHER HAS ONE!!! I am so stupid. I should have known straight off. My Guess way of thinking got me way off. Oh well, too late to have won anyway, and I just saw my bro two months ago.

Good times, tho, got me to register instead of lurking around looking at posts. So, something good came of it.

I still can't believe that I didn't see that it's my brother's watch. ;(

I only spent a day or so guessing and doing mad research, so much so I had to stop for a few hours because of a terrible headache due to a nerve in my neck that bothers me sometimes. Since Jonny had said that nobody guessed the exact brand (before I finally did) I wrote down all the guesses than tried different search terms such as "herrigbone band" on Google which didn't help, I then took the suggestion to try search terms on Amazon and finally tried "unidirectional bezel" which got me several brands and I then guessed the one that seemed most likely that nobody had guessed before and got lucky. I was beaten to the exact model though.

That was a Rolex Submariner?

That wasn't a fair one. Those are fairly common (for expensive watches) but most Submariners have a silver band with a crome center. No leather ribbon. I've never seen a band like that on a Rolex.
