I got these pictures the other day. It's a pretty cool case. Amazing what happens when to guys that are into RC cars get together to design a case.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/images/carbon_fiber/CF-1.jpg

The frame was handmade from aluminum. It's polished billet. The drive bays are bead blasted cast aluminum. The plexiglas panels were actually only made as a template for the carbon fiber panels. But I think it kind of looks good as a plexiglas case!

So here it is with the carbon fiber panels installed. The panels are SOLID carbon fiber. Not a layer of carbon fiber over an aluminum panel. The panels are 1/16" thick and feel like giant panes of glass, but they're so strong you could lift someone up with one.

Above is a photo showing the drive bays. The photos don't do the construction of this piece justice.

Above is a shot of the back. The whole I/O and slot assembly came out of a regular case and is screwed to the carbon fiber with a number of bolts. You can see the texture of the carbon fiber on the inside. The outside is smooth is glass, though. Funny that they even made the motherboard tray out of carbon fiber.

Check out the aluminum billet PSU mount!!

That's one good looking case :)

Make sure you click on the links. They're higher res. The thumnail and forum photos don't do the case justice.

Hell... no photos do the case justice. ;)

Nice case :D

Very cool...... I failed to see a price of what it cost to make, guessing that was for a reason;)

Ehh... well... something that someone only makes one of is not something you would boast about the price of. because it's bound to be unreasonably high. ;) Unless of course you just wanted to have the claim to fame of having one of the most expensive cases on the planet. :D

Woah, that is Beautiful. I might just have to pick one up for my p4.

But seeing how my P4 only uses a 300w fsp (more than enough), and blingless, i could use a new power supply with that. And obviously, a new heatsink seeing how the stock Intel isn't too hot. So with a new heatsink comes a new heatsink Fan, and might as well get more storage since it's only 80gb, and having it sitting there with a 17" CRT makes it look all sad, so I might as well get a Dell 2407. But 2 is better than one, so 2 2407. The desk is a bit small, so I might as well get a new desk. The new desk will probubly not fit the decor, so I might as well redecorate the house. And since I've always wanted a pool, put in one of those. Of course, that means I'd have to upgrade my car to match. Then after that, seeing how everyone has 2 cars, I might as well get another nice car to go with that. But I won't have enough garage space, so I'd need more property. Probubly buy out the house next door. Then a rebuild since it's quite old.

Damnit Jonny, you make me buy all these things with your new case :(

Bbq, you should know by now that Jonny is very expensive.

I know, it's like, barbie when you have to buy all her friends, but only like Jonny, and all his products, a new house, a new car, and a private island in the south pacific.

I'm not going to dignify that with a response.

Am I the Kimble (http://www.kimble.org/) of power supplies now? LOL!

That's one of the most awe inspiring cases I've ever laid eyes on. If that were to go into production it'd sell like hotcakes to the well healed PC buyers.

That would cost an awful lot of money to make, I used to have parts made for model helicopters from carbon fiber at the factory who made the bits for the Jordon Formula 1 team, and to see some of the bits is awsome but that would probably cost around £800 or about $1400.

Wouldn't it be nice though if money were no object.:D

you can buy carbon fiber in sheets, mold it yourself if you are working with small enough parts to fit in a small very hot home oven.

Carbon Kevlar mix is the strongest, carbon fiber just looks cool.

You could probably get the finished carbon fiber case down to ~200 if it was made in china.

Or if it structure integrity wasn't the point of the carbon fibre, ie-A case with CF layed on top of aluminum, for example, or a lot of resin mixed in with the CF and small aluminum support bars, then cost shouldn't be too great.

Yeah... it's funny buy carbon fiber layered on a thin panel of aluminum would have been cheaper and lighter and probably just as strong. But the "initiative" behind this case is that the panels were 100% carbon fiber.

I used to own a bike shop and managed a large bike shop. Been in the bike biz for the whole decade of the 90's. Carbon fiber is NOT light if you have to make it strong enough to support the weight of a rider. It's best to use aluminum for structure and then wrap it in aluminum.

Needless to say, this case is HEAVY. But it FEELS solid. No flex at all.

Jonny, how good of a thermal conductor is this case? Is the Al on the entire outer and inner surface of the case? I couldn't tell much by visual inspection of the pictures. :)

No. Like I said in my last post, the panels are 100% carbon fiber. The aluminum that makes up the frame isn't going to make up for much thermal conductivity. The carbon fiber is a good insulator, so it's NOT going to help the thermal of the build at all. Fortunately, good front to back airflow with two unobstructed 120MM fans keeps things nice and cool inside.
