Hey Everyone,
Out with the crickets and in with the new unit. So far so good......but, I noticed something rather strange that I have never encountered with the other 3.
After I powered it on, (still had the side panel off) I felt this blast of air hit me right in the face coming from the psu  I'm thinking the polarity of the fan was reversed and blowing out instead of sucking in. After scratching my head for a minute I decided to take a piece of paper to determine the direction of the air.......needless to say, it sucked the paper right down to the the top, so the fan is moving in the proper direction and it's not loud at all.
This is where I'm confused, not sure why the other 3 weren't like this? It's night and day difference in air movement.
Any thoughts appreciated,
Thanks....

Hey Dave,
It's the Toughpower 750

It's most likely some inversion in the fan at low RPM. I wouldn't sweat it.

LOL, I would have loved to have seen your face as you FINALLY plug in your new Tt and suddeny a massive blast of air bitch-slaps you in the face.
The look would have probably been priceless.

madmat, thanks for stopping by, I know you have experience with this model, so you'd be able to let me know if this was out of the ordinary. I didn't think it was, but kind of made me wonder after the initial blast.
SKYMTL, I was taken back a bit, thought maybe the RMA guys had enough of me and reversed the fan so I'd get a nice feces bath when powered
Yes, I actually did wipe my face :D just wasn't expecting that.

Okay, I'm now taking bets on how long before the crickets hatch. 4:1 odds.

Just an update, fired up some BF 2142 to the plaeasant sound of mother friggin crickets on steroids. This time it's similar in pitch but a bit more basey, and quite a bit louder, I can hear it 19" from the psu.
Jonny, if you read this and have a weak moment, I'd be glad to trade you this psu for one you have collecting dust. Then you could tear this apart and enlighten me on what's wrong with these units.
Things are just fine on the desktop, but once load is put on it, she screams like a banshee.

Damn...
Ok. Let me see if I can find it in the pile.

Jonny, it doesn't have to be the T.T., if you have something you'd consider to be equal, that would be fine too.I'm just done dealing with the extra noise, and I'm sure you can get to the bottom of this.

Secondary side rectifiers make a chirp chirp chirp noise when overloaded.

Makalu,
When I go into 3D, it sound like a beatles wings flapping, like the ones we have here called *june bugs* it's almost like you have when you were a kid, where you take a card and tag it onto your spokes so it makes that funky clicking noise, but to a lesser degree, but only when it has a load on it.
My rig consists of:
E6600
eVGA 680i
eVGA 8800 GTX
2GB Ballistix Tracers D9's
Zalman 9700NT
X-FI Fatal1ty
T.T.ToughPower 750
Antec Nine Hundred - with the stock 4 fans and a dvd burner,I'm sure theres plenty of unused power in there.

hmm yeah definately not being overloaded then...and a clicking noise can be caused by an underload condition as the unit constantly cycles off and on. It's really a mystery to me but I think maybe I'd try to ramp up the 5v rail with a dummy load (one of these should do it: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062291&cp=2032058.2032230.2032267&allCount=100&fbn=Type%2FPower+Resistors&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FPower+Resistors&fbc=1&parentPage=family )
or maybe just access your hard drives (drive singular?) during the 3D/12v load and see if anything changes. Just seems to me that there's something about your system and the design of the TT that don't like each other because the odds of 4 defective units in a row aren't good at all.
What I used to hear mostly when I put cards in my spokes was my Dad yelling at me about loosening the spokes lol

Makalu,
What's interesting about the whole issue, is that the psu did this on my AMD rig as well, so it's 2 differen't systems......as far as HD's, I only run 1.
Jonny, if your still up to trade for a psu, shoot me a pm when your ready and we can exchange info or if you have any questions.
Thanks,

yeah that is strange Sphere....and certainly does sound like it's the PSU unless maybe the two systems shared some other components too. But anyway I hope you have better luck with the next unit. :)
