VR-Zone reported (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4722) that a number of GeForce 7-series cards will hit end of life on 28th April and nVidia will release its 8600 on 17th April to replace them. From them the rumour as of 2nd March is:
$199-249 GeForce 8600 GTS, 256MB, 128-bit memory bus, 700MHz/1GHz.
$149-169 GeForce 8600 GT, 256MB, 128-bit memory bus, 600MHz/700MHz
$79-99 GeForce 8500 GT, 256MB, 450MHz/400MHz.
BUT OC Workbench (GeForce 8600 GTS shown here (http://www.ocworkbench.com/2007/nvidia/8600gts/g1.htm), 8600 GT over here (http://www.ocworkbench.com/2007/nvidia/8600gt/g1.htm).) has it as of the 11th of March:
$200-250 GeForce 8600 GTS, 675MHz/1GHz, GDDR3, 256MB or 512MB.
$150 or $180 GeForce 8600 GT, 540MHz/700MHz, GDDR3, 128MB or 256MB.
VR-Zone on the 3rd of March, found out (http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=132882), the drivers' nv_disp.inf file contains references to a half dozen yet-unreleased GeForce 8-series graphics cards. The list is as follows:
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0194.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0402.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0421.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0422.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0423.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS"
Most of these have since been leaked about or substantiated elsewhere, so I think in it you have the bleak roadmap. ;)

8600 GTS:
"NVIDIA estimates total board power consumption at around 71-watt"
8600 GT:
"NVIDIA rates the maximum board power consumption at 43-watts – 28-watts less than the 8600GTS"
:wtf: All those 1000W PSU's gearing to launch :lol:

These GPU (8800GTX/GTS) power requirements are just ridiculous! :crazy: :rant: :fire:

Out of curiosity what are the exact power requirements for 8800?
Last time I heard GTS = 140w and GTX = 165w, is it still the same?
Correct me if I am wrong, please!

E6400/ABIT QuadGT/2GB RAM/1 HDD/1 DVD-RW/1 TV Tuner/BFG 8800GTS 640 peak power (orthos + rthdribl) 150W (from Sirtec 500 (http://www.sirtec.com/HPC-500-A12S.php) Real-Time Power Watcher).
160W when gaming with NFSMW.

Correct me if I am wrong, please!Actual consumption tops out at about 160W under any circumstance, usually professional. You will usually get <150W drawn by an 8800GTX under fully intensive gaming conditions, like Xbit labs proved: http://xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gf8800_11.html

In people's opinion how would an 8300GS perform compared to a 6800GT and a 7800GT, then...
How would an 8600GT perform compared to a 6800GT and a 7800GT
Thanks...I may hold off buying a couple 7600GTs if the least of these comes close to a 6800GT in performance.
