Minor question:
well reading http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/NUUO550/
I noticed that it uses mainly Fuhjyyu Caps.
Which is mentioned as a Terrible brand over on BadCaps
http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=388
Or do you deem that as a non-issue since the days of Dying caps seems to be over?

The problem with Fujjy's is that they are not very good when operated hot (say continiously at 50 C as an example, although they are rated at 85 C). In other words, without adequet cooling, they blow up. Most failures I have seen are on the secondary side though.

They are indeed poor caps with a short life span, but they can and have held up for a long time when not subjected to excess heat. I have an ancient ATX Channel Well with no thermal fan controller sitting here full of them, and they all seem good.

Also helps when the OEM using them tests samples from each batch before cramming them in a PSU.

Personally, any Antec or other CWT made unit with these caps I would inspect for bad caps after 1 year of service. Other supplies using Fuhjyyu I would inspect after 2 years. And then every 6 months thereafter for both. If I found bad ones, I would replace or recap the PSU as necessary.

But I won't recommend against Sunbeam/Andyson for using Fuhjyyu - they don't cool as poorly as CWT/Antec does, and they have better QC.

I'm going to agree with the above.

There will ALWAYS be a "problem" with using Fuhjyyu's because of their "characteristic." The NUUO moves enough air to where the Fuhjyyu's should be safe.

You should note that the same OEM uses the same platform to make a PSU for Aerocool: The ZeroDBA. The caps in that unit are Teapo. Why? Probably because the fan BARELY moves in the ZeroDBA and the Teapo's hold up to the high heat better than the Fuhjyyus.

Then it sounds like a fan modded Aerocool would be a better pick

Huh? Why? The Aerocool doesn't have Fuhjyyu's (just one) so why would you fan mod it?

To extended its expected life, Since when one builds a computer for friends or someone else, you would hope that it lasts more than just 1 year before you have to replace it

That's why I'm confused. You said AEROCOOL. Did you mean SUNBEAMTECH?

The Aerocool doesn't have Fuhjyyu's in it. It has Teapos. Read my post again.

Andyson put the Teapos in the Aerocool because the Fuhjyyu's can't take the heat.

Basically the Cooler you keep those caps, the Better.
Basically: LB = LA * AT * AV * AR

Where:

LB = Lifetime under a certain condition "B"
LA = Lifetime under a certain condition "A"
AT = Temperature acceleration factor
AV = Voltage acceleration factor
AR = Ripple current acceleration factor
Thus lower the temp, the longer they last right?

Correct. I understand all that. But the Zero DBA was engineered to be a quiet PSU. Including using the Teapos instead of the Fuhjyyus.

Unlike Antec, they actually took into consideration that some caps don't like to run hot.

It doesn't make sense to pay the extra money for a quiet Zero DBA and make it loud by fan modding it.

If you want an on the cheap modular, you get the NUUO 550W because you can't get a modular for less money that that thing. And you fan mod it so it's Fujhyyu's don't blow up. Personally, I like the Zero DBA as is (if it's enough power for your build.)

Fan modding a PSU that's whole purpose for existance is to be a quieter alternative to anything else on the market defeats it's purpose and is a waste of money and time and resources. Unless of course you just happen to like the chrome finish and white cables and don't really care about the noise.

Teapos are usually far better with heat than Fuhjyyus ;)
