According to this article, there will be no "G81" or "8900".
Nvidia seems to be working on something better, so VR-Zone says:p

That's what they did with the 6800 series as well. I think I'll just play my hand close to my chest and stick with the 7950GT for a while like I did with my 6800nu.

Yup like I posted in a post yesterday, it was rumored to be 17/18th April. I guess it will be...

lol and these are going to have faster core speeds than the 8800s... my gts is 592 or something stock speed and the 8600 im seeing as 700 ???

Is it? :o The 8600 is supposed to be mid range, lower than the 8800 in spec. 8800s I have are 630/2000. There is no way its beaten by the 8600 - I doubt even by the 8900 - which rumours suggest is scrapped.

Just because it has a faster core doesn't mean it's a better card. The shader units will determine that along with the ram bit width and bandwidth.

Yes I know. I was replying to hecktic's question. :p

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0193.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0194.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra"
NVIDIA_G80.DEV_019E.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS"
NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0402.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0421.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0422.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS"
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_0423.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS"

It seems that NVIDIA is planning for a higher clocked GeForce 8800 Ultra and a cheaper GeForce 8400GS card.
Well the G80 cannot be clocked higher than at 630 but with WC - and even that at 680 max. So I wonder where they go.... Seems CADs VR-Zone link with 700/2000 is more correct :o

Yes I am aware of that but still whats the point of the faster core then?

It makes me angry since I spent near $500 on my 8800gts and now a new card with crappy specs except the core which is higher in speed is comming out and will most likely be cheaper too.... grr :mad:

okay now you confuse me, 8800 ultra?

I have gotten 653 core on my 8800gts and stable with passing 3dmark 06 score of 10750, and this was without WCing.

That's the way it works I suppose. I'm sure there is someone going "Shit, my 7600GT cost 400 bucks, and now it wont even run my OS... what is this world coming to?" :p

Me? I'm going to buy a processor next instead of a GFX card, and wait for this huge price drop. Even if I wait for the Intel Q2 price drop, I'm still going to have to pay big bucks for nothing more than a 4mb cache instead of 2mb...

well the only upside to my case is that I got an evga graphics card with the nice step up feature to upgrade the card to the gtx series 8800 :)

and since its an upgrade the gtx card will be brand new so I will sell it and then use the money to buy a better card once nvidia releases the new series :)

If you reckon thats bad then Ive been hit by an asteroid :(

XFX8800GTX XXX in SLI :mad: Have to upgrade when these newer ones come out - nVidia is saying theres an Ultra yes. Who knows, wait till 17th April, as before that most of it will be speculation. I've heard from 2 industry insiders before on their product release and specs 2 month in advance and they were both wrong!

The Ultra should be the fastest fucking thing this side of the galaxy. Not slower than the GTS' It's part of the branding. MX, GTS, Ultra.

Yea.

You reckon?

I'm not sure - R600 seems to have more potential... GTX is obviously higher up than the GTS but the Ultra can't be too far off the GTX with current chip limitations.
