The 600W is before my time. ;) Although the "After-Spin" and ferrite cores on the ends of the PCI-e connectors of the "2G" were my idea. :D The 500W APFC I helped get finished. That's why I particularly like this sentence:
Surprisingly the X-Finity DR 500W appears as if it was given a greater amount of attention than the X-Finity 2G 600W.
:D
Still not what I would consider "tier 1" or "tier 2", but not bad for < $100. I like Wintech just fine, but they seem to be behind the curve, so I've been trying to get Ultra to change OEM's on their higher end units. :)

How about them saying it can not be considered quite ,even at light loads?
I thought all Ultras were quite?

CAD, do you mean "quiet"? If so, I never thought that Ultra payed much attention to the fans they included.

They said the 600W wasn't quiet. But that thing has a pair of 80's. How quiet can that be?
They said the 500W APFC was quiet. It has a 135MM fan. It better be! :D
It is very cool, quiet and good looking.
And Ultra actually pays a lot of attention to the fans they use, but they also don't believe in using a fan that's going to result in long term component damage. If the components aren't properly cooled, they're not going to last long and these things have a lifetime warranty on them. :)

Wow! That is the first I have heard of a PSU being warrantied for life! The max I have heard is 5 years. Also, Jonny are you nudging Ultra towards Etasis or Seasonic?

If we see Ultra using Seasonic, I doubt it is going to be real Seasonic quality (Corsair), more like Antec Seasonic quality.

I realize you use a V-Series, but I can tell from the backhanded comments that that's the limit of your experience with the brand. ;)
Actually, when I told one of the guys at Ultra about Antec using a single layer PCB Seasonic, he had a shocked look on his face and said, "You can't do that!! It'll burst into flames!!" lol

Actually, neither. But it's an OEM with very good engineers that have done some very clever reverse engineering in a very short period of time. Throughout the process, they've found the short comings of these other products and have resolved many of their issues. Unfortunately, we're looking at $119 for a 600W PSU w/ APFC, but it's 84% efficient typical w/ 115V input, quieter than anything else with a fan and has the voltage regulation of a Zippy. ;)

Jonny, is just seems that jumping from WinTech to highend Seasonic is a big leap :D

Is it?
You're either giving the Seasonic built Antecs too much credit or Wintech not enough.
Considering you have zero experience with either, outside of a cheap little V-Series power supply, I'll leave it at that. ;)

I'm starting to think the company in question is headhunting engineers from Zippy or something ;)

Let's just say, there's a lot of drinking buddies involved that don't seem to have a lot of company loyalty. ;)
You mean the
"hey lets go for a drink, hop into my white van with blacked out windows"
"you're going to work for us now. "
Type?
