Hey guys. Just recently found out that my CPU cooler in my Dell is proprietary, so it's not coming with me to my new PC.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap CPU cooling solution for me? Intel D975XBX2 mobo, which is LGA 775 (I think so anyways. These new terms are greek to me:o ).

I was looking at this-

I heard it has trouble working on a non-asus board though. :(

Any suggestions would be welcomed. I've learned to stop here before I hit the "add to cart" button. :D

All right.. I'll bite. Why would it have trouble on anything other than an Asus board?

Maybe there's some component clearance issues because it does look like the base goes all of the way out to the mounting points. I just never noticed that Asus boards don't have any components located near the socket where other boards do.

This is what I'm using: http://www.thetwistergroup.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=ULT33131%20H28970&source=fr

Sorry. I don't do "cheap." :D

The best-bang-for-the-buck in a quiet heat piped cooler would be the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7.
It will Froogle for < $20. It ain't pretty, it just works pretty damn good.;)

http://www.madshrimps.be./ has a comparison of over 100 HSFs. You might consider looking over jmke's work.

Yeah, I read the review from SPCR already. Thanks though. :)

I looked at newegg for this thing, and they are price gouging everyone! 59.99 without shipping! I found it at eWiz for 19 bucks before shipping.

Hey Jonny... how much room around the CPU is there on the Bad Axe 2? (I'm a little worried about clearance)

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Interesting cooler. A friend at work has one identical to that on an old Gateway, it was the stock cooler for it too.

I've actually got my heart set on that Cooler 7 Pro. It's under 20 bucks on ewiz, and everyone recommends it. :D

Right now, my only worry is that the heatsink on the northbridge will get in the way. :(

Oh, I'm not saying it's good or to get it, just that it fit on a Gateway board so it should fit other brands than ASUS. It's not actually made by them, I forget the OEM on it though but it's one of the budget cooler MFG's.

I have the CNPS 9700, (which is my first Zalman product) and I have nothing but great things to say about it. It is a bit pricey though.
