Hi all,

I recently got a freebie X1900XTX and I'm now in need of a new PSU since my Tagan 480W(-U01) can't handle the card and a C2D E6600 in 3D. I'm basically looking for a quiet PSU priced around 150€ and available in stores, modular cables are a plus because I have a small case (Lian Li PC-7 SE). I'd also like a future-proof PSU with 6-8 SATA connectors and enough power for one G80 or R600 GPU in the near-future.

I've filtered my choices down to the Corsair HX620W and Seasonic M12-600W, which are (supposedly) both excellent choices, though I can't decide between them, so I have a few questions if someone could answer me these. :)

- SPCR pointed out that their M12 samples made a "buzzing" sound when the system is idle (or drawing little power), does this happen with all M12's? Does the Corsair have the same problem since it's based on the M12/S12?
- Is the 60mm fan really necessary on the M12's, did Seasonic know something Corsair didn't when designing them?
- I read through a few reviews (including jonnyguru's) about the Corsair, but failed to find if the Corsair comes with the Seasonic fan-controller, does it?

I'm rather tempted to get the Corsair over the Seasonic since it has a longer warranty, it's about 15€ cheaper and has more power, but it's out of stock everywhere and I need a PSU before next Friday.
Is the Seasonic worth paying the extra for or should I wait till the Corsair is back in stock (ETA 27.10), does the Seasonic have anything over the Corsair that would make it worth buying?

I've also thought about getting the Silverstone ST75ZF, it's the same price as the M12-600W, but I'd rather get a modular PSU and need at least 6 SATA connectors (for 4 SATA HDD's and 1 or 2 optical SATA drives, I'd rather not use the plug-ins tbh). I'd love the PC&P 750W Silencer, but it's a shame they don't sell them here in Europe. I'm open for other suggestions too (be quiet! Dark Power Pro or Straight Power? Seasonic S12+ 650W? Cooltek CT-600?).

Sorry for the long post. :)

They both excellent power supplies.

The buzzing is an isolated incident and is something that could happen with any power supply. And it's even more prevelant if the unit is very quiet like the Corsair and Seasonic.

As for the fan controller, I'm not sure what you mean by "the Seasonic Fan Controller." It's not like there's a module with a separate Seasonic part number on it that you can say, "Yep! That's the Seasonic Fan Controller." The fan controller on the Corsair is very smart and reacts quickly to temperature changes, so if there's any question, I would say the Corsair fan controller is just as good as the one in the M12.

Yeah, jonny's right on the money on this one. I just put a Seasonic M-12 600W in my system and I can tell you that the thing is almost dead silent. My case fans (I've got 2 120mm and 2 92mm) make more noise than the PSU does.

Either way, they're both excellent PSU's and you can't go wrong with either of them.

I have both the Corsair 520W & 620W up & running, the 620W is the best PC PSU I have ever tested or used!

I would wait. :D

The corsair's have more power per dollar, you're getting more for your money. The buzzing sound supposably hinders the corsairs in a few instances as well, but like JG said, those were isolated and dealt with quickly. I have heard very few of such instances and those that had them, performed a quick RMA and the other unit was perfect.
