Performance (40% of the final score) – it’s time for some scoring. This unit performed a lot better than its outward appearance would lead us to believe. Voltage regulation, averaging at 0.83% in the hot box, was excellent so only half a point needs to come off for being a notch below mythic. Ripple control was under 25mV on all rails, so that’s excellent as well and will cause no deduction there. The S&C point was well handled in those tests, so no deduction there, either. Finally, we did get the Gold efficiency we wanted to see so this category gets a really solid 9.5.

Functionality (20% of the final score) – I have a couple deductions to make here, both involving minor things that don’t matter a whole lot. First, the daisy chained CPU cable is a massive annoyance. Half a point gone for that. Second, there are capacitors in the main ATX cable, so half a point goes away for that. Finally, this being a non modular unit, a whole point comes off, there. All else looks good to me. 8.

Value (20% of the final score) – this will cost you 89.90€ at Caseking.de right now. It’s not the cheapest 750W unit there, but it is the cheapest 750W Gold unit there. That said, the EVGA B3 unit is the same price and fully modular, though not quite as efficient. With that in mind, I think this is an excellent value but stops just short of really nailing this category. 9.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) – no issues found on the insides. This unit was built well and should last years, provided the fan proves its worth. 10.

Formula Gold 750W – Scoring
Performance 9.5

SUMMARY

If you have reached the end of this review and are still stuck on the fact that early units have shipped with an upside down sticker on the side, give your head a shake. Clearly, it didn’t matter for performance, and this unit brings with it a heck of a lot of performance for the money. Unless you really want modular cables, this unit is a near unbeatable value.

The GOOD:

  • excellent ripple control
  • excellent voltage regulation
  • fantastic build quality
  • reasonable price
  • shallow housing

The BAD:

  • nothing comes to mind

The MEDIOCRE:

  • ATX cable capacitors
  • daisy chained CPU cable
