Performance (40% of the final score) – we’ll start with the voltage regulation on this unit. At 1.23% in the hot box, our results were no less than excellent. No deductions from a perfect score for that. The same goes for the efficiency… this unit did have a little trouble clinging to Platinum but cling it did so there can be no deductions there, either. It’s not quite as rosy for the ripple suppression, though. While the minor rails were excellent, the 12V rail was a notch down from that in “very good” land. So, half a point will come off there. With no other issues to score on, we end up with a 9.5.

Functionality (20% of the final score) – there are a few minor deductions to make here as well, but for the most part, BeQuiet gets it right. Lots of cables, lots of connectors, a fan controller built in, overcurrent protection that can be disabled if need be, lots of goodies, and even extra mounting screws all count toward a high score here. The deductions? Half a point for only being semi-modular, half a point for using a fan connector for the OCK function (though they do warn against plugging fans in there), and half a point for those dratted Berg connectors. That’s all. We come up with an 8.5 here.

Value (20% of the final score) – NewEgg’s current price is $249. Also, you can only buy 9999 of them at one time, so if you’re looking to get ten thousand or more today you’re pretty well screwed. That makes it 99 cents cheaper than an EVGA P2, Enermax Platimax 1350W, Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1200W, and FSP’s own answer to this unit. In general, this unit is pretty darned competitive, but there’s also a Seasonic 1200W sitting there on sale for twenty bucks cheaper. Even so, I still think this is a good value… that Seasonic is marked down from $249.99 itself. 9.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) – I found nothing at all to quibble over. 10.

SUMMARY

BeQuiet isn’t a name we see here in the lab too often, but when we do they usually bring something worth looking at. The Dark Power Pro 11 1200W unit is no exception. It’s big, feature-packed, powerful, and it shows an attention to detail I don’t normally see from the competition. Like most power supplies it does have some benefits and drawbacks, but in this case, my complaints are minor indeed. Nice job, BeQuiet!

The GOOD:

  • excellent voltage stability
  • built-in fan controller
  • very good to excellent ripple suppression
  • fantastic build quality
  • lots of included accessories
  • tons of cables and connectors

The BAD:

  • nada

The MEDIOCRE:

  • Berg, Berg, Berg… can we just get rid of those blasted connectors now, please?
