Our quest to find the perfect power supply resumes today. Today, we’ll have a look at the latest unit of the Rosewill persuasion to show up looking to impress us, the Quark 1000. Going by the front of the box, this is a unit that promises 80 Plus Platinum efficiency and a five-year warranty. Will it do well? Will it quarrel, quibble, quiver, quell or just plain quit?
We’re going to find out. Quickly.
But before we do the load testing stuff, we need to get the usual box and product shots out of the way. Here’s the back of the box, and some marketing. Fully modular? Excellent. That’s how I like them best. LED indicators? A somewhat unusual feature and probably not all that useful in a unit with decent protection circuitry, but they can’t hurt anything. Ultra-quiet fan? That’s nothing new.
We also get a visual representation of the connectors on this unit, and there seem to be a lot of them. Good. At this power level, it’s almost better to have too many than too few.
Package contents look pretty good, here. Let’s get started the unpacking process and see if we really get all the extras we’re being promised.
I cannot tell you how pleased I am to find proper protection for the unit in the box this time out. Usually, Rosewill just drops the power supply on one small foam tray and closes up the box with no more protective foam on top. This time, the power supply is encased in foam, and that will likely result in fewer busted units coming back to Rosewill.
Let’s see… we have a power supply, a bag of goodies, a manual, and a bag of modular cables.
Here’s the manual. It has a few basics, but not too many specifics. I found no information about the maximum operating temperature. I do believe this will be scored on.
Everything the box promised for goodies is here – three twist ties, a 14 gauge power cord, and a bag of knurled screws.
