A little while ago, I looked at a new Cooler Master unit that marked a dramatic departure for the company. Known as the V1000, it showed all of us that Cooler Master was no longer content with their middle of the pack position in the marketplace. It was an amazing unit indeed, but can the company keep the momentum going? The brand new V850 is here today to help us answer that very question.

Once upon a June, I reviewed a brand new power supply from Cooler Master that excited me like no other Cooler Master had been able to before: the V1000. Based on a stellar platform that is one of the best you can buy right now, that unit blew me away with the performance I wasn’t used to seeing from the brand.
Today, I’m checking out the little brother of that unit, the V850. We’re going to make sure Cooler Master really means business these days.
I can hardly wait to get to pages three and four, but I still need to do this by the book and show off some marketing and product shots first. Here’s the marketing. Nothing new under the sun, here.
Some specifications here, as usual. Hey, I wonder what they mean by “other” under type. Antarctic type? Martian type? Writer-type? Does it come qwerty or Dvorak?
Well… enough bad jokes. I’d say it’s time to get the box unpacked.
It looks a lot like the contents of the V1000 box. A user guide, power supply in a cloth bag, a bag of modular cables, and a power cord.
The user guide is exactly the same as the 1kW model’s. It gets the job done, just barely.
And now the power supply itself. These units still look pretty good, to me.
One more angle for you, and I’ll see you on page the next.
