So this week I’m playing with the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W power supply. The particular unit on the bench is the W0155RU. This is the fixed cable version. There is an identical modular version, or “CableManagement” version, with the part number W0132RU that is also available.

According to the DC output table on the box, the output of each rail is identical to the 1200W unit we recently reviewed. The only difference here is the maximum combined output of the +12V rails. On our 1200W Toughpower, we had two separate +12V sources feeding two +12V rails each, and each one could put out as much as 600W. This unit can only put out 500W across each pair of +12V rails, for a total combined maximum output of 1000W on the +12V rails.
As we open the box, everything here looks very familiar. Packed within foam we have our power supply wrapped in bubble-wrap. Under the cables we have a black box with a power cord, four mounting screws, and under everything we have a manual.
In every way shape and form, the 1000W Toughpower looks identical to the 1200W unit.
As stated earlier, this particular unit is the fixed-cable version. There are so many cables coming out of this thing that they have to be split up into two groups. The modular version would just have a series of modular connectors on this side of the housing, identical to the 1200W modular version we reviewed.
Like the 1200W unit, the 1000W has a giant aluminum sticker covering up one side of the power supply.
Heat exhausts through a honeycomb grill. The large power switch ensures you of it’s on and off positions with a very audible “CLACK!”
So here we are with the label from the 1000W Toughpower. They’ve grouped +12V1 with +12V3 and +12V2 with +12V4. This is because each of these two rails get their power from the same +12V source. One rail has a 20A OCP (over current protection) while the other has a 36A OCP.
I’ve reproduced the table below to make it easier to read…
|Tt Toughpower 1000W – DC Output|
|Max Combined Watts||250W||500W||500W||9.6W||17.5W|
Not only is the DC output capability of the 1000W almost identical to the 1200W, the number of cables and connectors is identical as well….
