Underneath the eight rubber feet are 8 little screws holding this thing together.
Once opened we can see the big 160MM fan.
Such tiny fan blades!
Since this fan runs off of USB power, it’s using 5V. I assumed more power might help the fan spin faster and move more air.
The first thing I did was cut off the DC jack, pulled and pulled the wire through the housing. I did this because the wire was not long enough to retrofit anything to it. I then had to tape the wire down so it wouldn’t pull from the hub of the fan.
I then crimped on a battery terminal pigtail I picked up at Radio Shack. $1.99 for a pack of 5! I think you know where this is heading.
Screw it all back together, attach a 9V battery and fire her up!
OK. Laptop temperatures are back up to 82°C. Let’s see if my mod had any effect on the LapCool4’s cooling ability.
Oh my… That’s not right. Well.. apparently that mod was pointless.
Let’s try something else….
